Rochedale State High School offers a program that is very well established and has a reputation of giving high quality and engaging performances. Our Instrumental Music Program continues the development of student's musical abilities that have been acquired during their primary school years. They partake in weekly lessons on their musical instrument taught by specialist teachers. Students also participate in school ensembles available at their level of expertise – Symphonic Band, Stage Band, String Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. Instrumental Music Students are encouraged to audition for the APEX-Music program in years 7 and 8 to receive focused music tuition in Classroom Music.
The school Bands and Ensembles have a strong tradition of performance at school functions and community events. Our students have represented the school at Creative Generation, Fanfare, MOST and the State Honours Ensemble Program. Select musicians are also chosen to perform in the pit for school musical productions. Past musicals successes have included 'Club 21', 'Zeropolis', 'Oarstruck' and 'Shrink'.

The instrumental music program has been established by dedicated specialist teachers of strings, woodwind and brass, and percussion. Showcase Concerts are always well patronized allowing our Ensembles to perform to a parent audience and are always an enjoyable evening. Students with an interest in singing are encouraged to sing in our vocal group, who support and participate in our music performances.
Year 11 and 12 Instrumental Students are eligible for extra points towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) if they are studying Level 7 or higher of the Music Curriculum. They must fulfil assessment requirements and complete 55 hours of contact time per year.

Rochedale State High School is proud of the continued excellence produced by our students under the direction of the Instrumental Music Instructors, and the very high standard of the Instrumental Music Program. More information on what we offer in Instrumental Music is available by contacting the Instrumental Music Coordinator.
Music is a unique and integral part of life. It has the capacity to inspire all students' creativity and imagination, engage them in the art of expression, immerse them in a language and history that is rich in culture, provide them with opportunities beyond the classroom and excite them about life and learning.

The skills, concepts and attitudes that students acquire as a result of music education benefit them not only during their schooling but also in the years beyond, whatever their chosen career path. The overarching purpose of the Rochedale SHS Instrumental Music Program is to provide students with the opportunity to experience the expressive qualities of music through learning to play a band or orchestral instrument in group lessons and to participate in performance ensembles such as concert bands and orchestras.
