Extension English
Mission:
Rochedale State High School's Extension English program aims to provide students with an opportunity to strengthen their critical analysis skills and engage with a diverse range of texts. In our ever increasingly connected world, the ability to communicate effectively and utilise language to engage with a multitude of audiences is an essential skill.
Key focus:
The subject of English provides students with opportunities to experiment with language, to enjoy immersing themselves in a variety of texts and appreciate varying social and cultural perspectives. Students selected for the Extension English program will have demonstrated a high level of success in their primary school English classes. While students will still be assessed using the respective year level criteria, students will develop their higher order thinking skills to critique and evaluate the specific qualities of both literary and non-literary texts.
Ultimately, by engaging in the Extension English program, the intention is to best prepare students for the range of teaching and learning experiences they can expect in their senior years.

Mission:
The Rochedale State High School HASS Excellence Program is designed to challenge high-achieving students by extending and developing their academic abilities in a highly motivated and engaging learning environment. The program also provides a framework for students to build on their personal strengths and understand how to use them to make a meaningful impact on the world around them.
Key Focus:
Students follow the same curriculum and assessments as other students but also undertake additional projects and explore topics in greater depth. These learning experiences are enriched through negotiated tasks, fast-tracking, cognitively demanding challenges, community projects, and enhancement activities. Engagement with this excellence program will see your young person develop their capabilities in critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication, and organisation and time management; and better prepare them for the tertiary and professional pathways.
